Meet some of the locals
Red drum are one of Florida’s most popular sport fish and the state’s most widespread estuarine fish. They also chase crabs, mullet, pinfish and killifish (mud minnows). Casting soft-bodied jigs, spoons and even top-water plugs will catch the attention of these powerful estuarine musicians.
Snook are prized game fish because of their powerful fights; they are described as “largemouth bass on steroids.” Once hooked on a line, snook immediately swim toward the sharpest surface, tangle the line in mangrove, or attempt to cut the line with their razor sharp gill plates. Fishing with live bait, produces some great action!
Spotted sea trout are better known as speckled trout, and when they get really big, gator trout. Regardless of what you call it, it’s not a trout at all. Specks belong to the drum family. They are one of the most targeted species in their range which extends from Texas to Maryland. Most specks are caught over shallow, grass flats, but they can be found just about everywhere inshore from the surf, along outer islands, throughout the bays, and far up rivers.
I am an experienced guide with a masters captains license, the safety of my client(s) is incredibly important to me when boating Sarasota’s beautiful bays. In Fall, winter, and early spring I work shallow flats, mangroves, and oyster bars. In the summer I focus on the bays, passes, and near shore. Night trips change with the seasons. Below are the rates for my trips. If you have any special accommodations feel free to contact me and we can discuss further plans. Let’s start our adventure today, I look forward to showing you the true beauty of Sarasota Florida.

Capt. Kelly took me and my two sons out for a 4 hour morning charter today. We targeted mangrove snapper and thought we would try for a tarpon bite. Within the first half hour, we had caught about 10 mangroves, when I hooked a 4 ft. Tarpon!! Got it to the side of the boat. Continued catching mangrove and grouper, and hooked another tarpon about another 1/2 hour. It jumped and came undone. My oldest son hooked a 3 ft. Tarpon about 45 minutes later and got it to the boat. We continued fishing for mangrove until the bite dropped off, and then tried our hand at Snook fishing. We had a fantastic morning wit Capt. Kelly, and would highly recommend booking with him. We definitely will again!! Thanks again Capt. Great day and great memories!!
