Meet The Fish

SNOOK
SNOOK
Red drum are one of Florida’s most popular sport fish and the state’s most widespread estuarine fish. Floating a live shrimp under a popping cork is a good way to fish for redfish. They also chase crabs, mullet, pinfish and killifish (mud minnows). Casting soft-bodied jigs, spoons and even top-water plugs will catch the attention of these powerful estuarine musicians. Redfish make great table fare.
REDFISH
REDFISH
Snook are prized game fish because of their powerful fights; they are described as "largemouth bass on steroids." Once hooked on a line, snook immediately swim toward the sharpest surface, tangle the line in mangrove, or attempt to cut the line with their razor sharp gill plates. Snook differs from other more popular sport fish like tarpon and marlin in that they are also a celebrated table fish.
TROUT
TROUT
Speckled seatrout are a schooling species, particularly when they are young. They favor locations where there are current discontinuities, such as mouths of water bodies, gullies and trenches, sharp bends, and changes in bottom contour. They are not particularly attracted to hard bottoms, but they are often found near seagrasses and saltmarshes which are adjacent to deeper channels.

Had a great trip with Captain Kelly Kurtz this morning . He is very knowledgeable of the area and knows where the fish are. He put us right on the fish and my boys and father-in-law had non-stop action for the entire trip. We made many great memories for years to come. Top notch equipment and expertise made for an enjoyable time. Captain Kelly is great with kids and shows them how to catch fish. I would highly recommend Mangrove Charters if you want to catch fish in the Sarasota Bay area.

I enjoyed a great fishing adventure with Captain Kelly. He is extremely knowledgeable and gave me great tips that helped me catch a Snook. Awesome! But for me the best part of the trip was taking pics of three dolphins feeding and an encounter with an adorable manatee. Definitely book again with him in the future.

Capt. Kelly took me and my two sons out for a 4 hour morning charter today. We targeted mangrove snapper and thought we would try for a tarpon bite. Within the first half hour, we had caught about 10 mangroves, when I hooked a 4 ft. Tarpon!! Got it to the side of the boat. Continued catching mangrove and grouper, and hooked another tarpon about another 1/2 hour. It jumped and came undone. My oldest son hooked a 3 ft. Tarpon about 45 minutes later and got it to the boat. We continued fishing for mangrove until the bite dropped off, and then tried our hand at Snook fishing.
We had a fantastic morning wit Capt. Kelly, and would highly recommend booking with him. We definitely will again!!
Thanks again Capt. Great day and great memories!!
